The Wall

The Wall

(1/125, f4, iso-200, 55mm)

A couple of years ago just before sunset we descended down the Ordesa valley in the spectacular landscape of
the Ordesa National Park in the Spanish Pyrenees.
Would you believe it´s possible to walk along one of the highest ridges on this wall where at places the path is one metre wide and you´ll have a 400m sheer drop to your right?
Here´s a video with evidence!

    • Hi Truels,

Thanks for the compliment and I wasn´t able to do it cuz of bad winter weather, but I´m not sure if I was brave enough to try it 😉
      Greetings, Ron

  1. What a shot! The things I missed on your blog during my holidays. I’ll have to visit it for myself some day. Thank you for sharing Ron! Again, fabulous light and composition 🙂

    • Hi Paula,
Hope all is well over there, thanks for taking a look and guess I missed some things around here while i was away but happy to be looking around again 😉
Definitely a great place to visit as is the most of the Pyrenees, very quiet and beautiful!
      Best to you
      Ron

      • Hi Ron 🙂 I am happy I got to hear from you before my next trip that is starting next Wednesday. I hope you will be posting something before I go. Have missed you and your posts. P. 🙂

        • Hola, just opened your blog to see what I missed, love the colors on that stream already 😉
Where is the trip going to this time?
Just put up the first animal on my blog ever and surely more photos from my trip coming up…

    • Guess it doesn´t matter too much with such distances and low light made it more necessary, if I can recall!
Thanks for stopping by, Scott, hope all is well?!
      Greetings, Ron

  2. You could not have planned a more perfect shot! It is just beautiful, the lighting is amazing! And your post production adds so much to the image!

    • Muchas gracias, Emilio, actually we ahd to hurry down to catch the last bus back to civilisation, but couldnt miss the amazing last light on these rocks 😉
Didnt do too much on pp, apart from some sharpening on rocks, cuz the light was perfect as it is!
      Saludos,
      Ron

    • Thank you, Karen! Definitely very steep to get up to that high trail, once up there its even but you shouldnt have a fear of heights 😉
      Greetings from KL, Ron

    • Hi Laurie, in one way I would love to walk it but there are parts that I don´t feel too brave about 🙂
Did go up on the wall on the other side for similar views, but that was reachable by 4×4!
Sorry for late reply, hope to improve there, have a great weekend,
      Ron

    • Thank you so much, Maria, always a great pleasure to share these for enthousiastic friends like you!
Sorry for late reply, all very well here, enjoying SE Asia very much so far, hope everything is great with you too!
      Ron

  3. thankyou for passing by, amazing photograph.. looks very beautiful

have such a fear of heights, just looking at your photo makes me want to throw myself down on hands and knees.. its irrational.. have ridden on a cliff path with my son and visited the roof of notra dame, all terrifying experiences trying to overcome it

    • Hi Maria, thank you for the compliment and I too am not the bravest when it comes to heights, but I always think thats just a smart thing to be 😉
Like I said to others I was happy this path was closed for the day due to bad weather!
      Have a great weekend,
      Ron.

  4. I have ridden horses at high elevations where everyone leaned into the cliff side, but never on such sheer cliffs. I too am scared of heights and would feel it here. The two last photos on the video were stunning. Like the music too.Your photo captures such beautiful detail and light.

    • Hi Jane, that sounds even more scary with putting your trust in the horse as well! And I must admit this looked a little to steep for me too, so i was happy it was closed that day due to bad weather! It is a stunning location in my opinion so if you just have luck and be their with the right light, you can hardly go wrong 😉
Have a great weekend and sorry for my late reply, I´m very happy reading your comments, thanks for your support!
      Ron

  5. As I was watching the video, one of YouTube’s ubiquitous ads popped up–for funeral services! Wonder what brilliant marketing person thought that ad might be appropriate???

    • Haha, thats some direct marketing for sure, never heard of any problems on the trail, well a friend of mine was trapped there during a snowstorm, but still came down ok after it 😉
      Saludos, Ron

    • Haha, so true, not sure if you saw some of my desert photos from Spain, even more Southwest US 😉
      Thanks for stopping by, Derrick!
      Greetings from Malaysia,
      Ron

    • That´s very nice of you to say, Lisa, can you imagine we were in a hurry to hike down to catch the last bus out, but I wasn´t gonna let that take away from taking time to watch these scenes envelop during sunset, walk faster in between 😉
Thanks very much, hope you have a great week,
      Ron

    • Hi Wendy, well I did fancy the walk but was relieved it was closed due to weather, not felt very unlucky with that though 😉
Thanks for your interest, hope you´re well!
      Greetings, Ron

  6. no no no no NO I will not be watching any such video, the thought is making me queasy and creeped out! That one section looks like it has stairs and a door?

    • Hahaha, I didnt do it myself, I was lucky it was closed because of snow on the path, but not sure if I would do it otherwise, but watching the video is pretty safe, I think 😉
I know what you mean by the stairs and door and it does look like it, but no, it´s not, that would be too crazy!
Thanks for stopping by and greetings from Malaysia,
      Ron

    • Thanks very much, Christopher! The place is so amazing it´s hard not to get some amazing photos when you´re there at the right time 😉
      Have a great week, Ron.

    • Thanks, Foster and yeah, ti does make you feel very small, but actually I love that feeling, knowing this will outlive all of us makes me feel very tranquil too…
      All the best to you,
      Ron

  7. First of all… amazing image, Ron. Really, really beautiful. I love the colors…
Second of all… I watched the video… and I’m very scared of hights, so I wouldn’t walk there.

    • Thanks very much, Malin, and although i would maybe dare to do it, I´m very happy the video was made and I live in Malaysia now 😉
      Greetings, my friend.
      Ron

    • Thanks a lot, Santi, it is an amazing canyon, like many more in that area and very quiet, especially off-season, which makes the experience even more intrigueing!
      Greetings from KL, Ron.

    • Haha, totally understandable, Margaret! I was lucky it was closed due to a little snow left on the slopes 😉
      Thanks and greetings, Ron.
